Fire evacuates SLO Old Navy shoppers

December 4, 2013

A ventilation system fire prompted the evacuation of the San Luis Obispo Old Navy store Tuesday evening.

San Luis Obispo firefighters responded to the fire at Old Navy around 7:16 p.m. Tuesday and promptly extinguished the flames.

The fire occurred in a heating, ventilation and air condition (HVAC) system. The HVAC that caught fire served a bathroom in the rear of the store.

A large amount of smoke filled the retail area as a result of the fire. Sixteen firefighters used portable fans to pump smoke out of the building.

Less than $1,000 of damage occurred as a result of the fire. The firefighters spared the clothing from damage.
